Horsetail Fall drains a small area on the eastern summit of El Capitan and flows only in the winter and spring in years with adequate rain and snow, which is scarce this year. Experts say it doesn& 39;t take a lot of water for the fall to light up.

Will people pay to see puppets? She then travelled the world in search of arresting pictures, living with hippy communes and with the black power movement. Arnold photographed some of the great movie stars of a generation, including Paul Newman, Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor. She also photographed Marilyn Monroe, with whom she had a close friendship for 10 years. In 1969 Arnold was to spend an important period of her life documenting the ruling family and life in the Arab States, which was to be published in 1971 under the title Behind The Veil.

Eve Arnold

Examining her portfolio, Robert Capa pinpointed the twin strands of her work as being “Marlene Dietrich’s legs and the bitter lives of migratory potato pickers”. She was Dietrich’s long-time choice as photographer, and she also took a memorable set of the ageing Joan Crawford enduring her punishing beauty regime. Yet the mere fact that a biopic about a photographer, a generation after her suicide, found a producer is remarkable. In the U.S., Arbus (1923-71) is a star whose prints fetch astronomical prices. In France, she had been virtually ignored. The retrospective at the Jeu de Paume is the first major exhibition of her work in Paris. Regrettably, the organizers follow neither a chronological nor a thematic order. They present the 200 or so photographs in a muddle, leaving it to the visitor to decipher the sense. To justify their unhelpful attitude, they quote the artist: “A photograph is a secret about a secret. HTC took a page from the pro-sumer playbook and beefed up the phone& 8217;s imaging guts. Like the EVO 4G and the iPhone 4, the Slide incorporates a back-illuminated image sensor and throws in a wide f/2.2 lens to boot. In addition to some wide angle action, this arrangement allows for more light to hit the sensor, thus producing the better low-light images. For the most part, the Slide followed through. Night shots of Oakland& 8217;s skyline looked crisp and showed minimal graininess.

How to snap better smart phone pictures The Globe and Mail

One things for certain – a smart phone pic will always be better than no pic at all, so lose the Annie Leibovitz attitude and embrace the inevitable amateurishness of your photos. “The fact of the matter is, pictures taken on a phone are never going to measure up to pictures taken with a point-and-shoot,” says Mr. Gordon, which is fine. Chances are you are snapping to capture good times, not to create great works of art. Mr. Gordon recommends downloading special-effect apps like Hipstamatic or Vintage Camera, which give photos an intentionally grainy and old-fashioned look. “All of a sudden, even the crappiest photos can look awesome,” he says.
